Additional Notes
Fischer, known as the ‘Ragamuffin Man’ due to his famous boats, competed in 42 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Races.
Fischer was awarded an OBE in 1971 and mentored some of Australia’s best sailors and is a member of the NSW Sports Hall of Fame, America’s Cup Hall of Fame and Australian Sailing’s Hall of Fame.
Fischer’s super maxi Ragamuffin is part of sailing folklore after winning Sydney to Hobart line honours in 1988 and 1990 and claiming the overall handicap title in 1992.
Fischer took part in eight Admiral’s Cups and participated in the America’s Cup five times; a record he shares with Sir Thomas Litpon.
