Biography
Fiery Maitland prop first came to the notice of Sydney scouts after playing in Newcastle's win in the 1964 State Cup final. Joining Souths in 1965, Morgan represented NSW in two matches and was a member of the young Rabbitohs team that played in front of 78,065 fans in the grand final against St George. A non-playing reserve in the Test series against Great Britain in 1966, Morgan would have to wait another four years for his Test jersey. After playing in Souths' victorious grand final team in 1968, Morgan found it difficult to cement a regular first grade spot in a champion forward pack and Easts bought out the final three years of his contract. In 1970 he played for NSW and was selected for the First Test against Great Britain in Brisbane. In a courageous Test debut, Morgan scored two tries despite being kicked to the ground and having his nose smashed by a Cliff Watson head-butt. Not surprisingly, he missed the next Test through injury but played in the deciding Third Test that saw the Ashes lost. After playing in Easts' 1972 grand final loss to Manly, Morgan joined former Roosters coach Don Furner at Queanbeyan. In 1974 he toured NZ with Combined Country and represented NSW again. The following year he captained Country to a win against City in what was a major boil-over at the time. Morgan returned to Easts in 1986 and coached the club's reserve grade team to a grand final win over P’matta.

JIM Morgan was in hospital with a severe infection in the week prior to the 1972 Grand Final with Manly. Artie Beetson and John Armstrong were Easts props in 1972 GF.
